Tarsem Singh's Snow White film titled 'Mirror Mirror'

In next year's battle of the Snow White films, Tarsem Singh's feature is due to bow first.  The Untitled film now has a name, Mirror Mirror.  Here's a look at some colorful photographs from the film that show off the fantastic costumes as is Singh's style.

First Look: Lily Collins as Snow White!

Entertainment Weekly has released the first look of Lily Collins as Snow White in the first of the dueling Snow White movies, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.  Directed by Tarsem Singh, the film also stars Armie Hammer as the Prince, Sean Bean as the King and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen.

Lily Collins certainly looks the part but I'm not sure what's going on with the costume there.  She looks like she could be atop a cake!  Let's hope for a costume change in the film.

Weekly News Roundup: Tarsem Singh's Snow White, Brad Bird on his live-action debut and Tobey Maguire in Life of Pi.

I go away for a week and suddenly there's movie news and trailers all over the place.  Don't worry, I'm going to try to play catch up now.  Let's get to it then.

Snow White and her Prince Charming

  • Out of all the projects currently in production on Snow White, I'd bet my money on Tarsem Singh's Untitled Snow White Project that has picked up quite a cast.  Julia Roberts is the Evil Queen, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) is Prince Charming and Lily Collins (The Blind Side), daughter of Phil Collins, has been named as Snow White.  Trust me, it's not going to be boring.  Comingsoon.net has a great video interview with the director here where he talks about his plans for the movie.
  • Steven Spielberg is back to serious filmmaking, the kind that's going to get him back on the award podiums.  The long neglected Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln, is back on, this time casting Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.  Here's a fun fact, Field has never worked with Spielberg before, while Daniel Day-Lewis will be Lincoln.
  • James Cameron and Peter Jackson talk about speeding up 3D by using 48 frames per second in their next 3D projects The Hobbit and the Avatar sequels.
  • Brad Bird discusses with EW his first live-action film, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and how live-action differs from animated filmmaking.
  • Tobey Maguire joins the cast of Life of Pi as the interviewer who learns the story about Pi's journey across the seas.

Daily News Update: Snow White and Leo's next project

  • Leonardo's next project maybe?  Leonardo DiCaprio has gotten the book rights for The Devil in the White City to produce and star in the story of America's first serial killer.  Yet another dark movie with demons to purge for Leo.
  • Tiny minuscule progress on the Arrested Development movie.  No script yet but they do have a story in mind, says David Cross (aka Tobias Funke).  Has it really been 4 years since we saw the Bluths?  Time to re-visit them and soon.
  • Official confirmation of Tarsem Singh as director for Snow White.  It's going to be all in 3D but dark, twisty and comedic?  Didn't see this one coming.  This will be interesting for sure as this is one of three big film coming out that feature Snow White.  It will be either Tom Hardy or Johnny Depp both of whom might be interested in Snow White and the Huntsman focusing on the huntsman hired by the Evil Queen to kill Snow White but instead lets her live and teaches her to fight back.  Meanwhile, at Disney, Snow and the Seven is about a young British girl in Hong Kong who learns to fight off evil with the help of, what else, seven Shaolin monks.  What do you want to bet they all release around the same time too?
  • Baz Luhrmann is looking for an actress to play Daisy in The Great Gatsy.  Who should it be?  Rebecca Hall has already read for the role.  The list is long.

This post contains a whole lotta news!

Onwards and let's begin!

  • The first Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides teaser trailer will debut alongside the Tron: Legacy movie.
  • Not only has the How To Train Your Dragon sequel been sanctioned, a TV series is also set to air on the Cartoon Network.
  • Tarsem Singh is going to direct a live-action feature on Snow White.  I'm really excited about this, his last film, The Fall, was completely underrated.  I wish more people had seen it, each frame was an astonishing visual and I was so moved by young Cantinca Untaru's performance in the film.  Please see it if you ever get a chance.
  • Ok, so I was all been that, seen that with the news that Men in Black 3 was announced.  But now they might bring on board Alec Baldwin, Sharlto Copley (District 9), Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) to join Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.  Emma Thompson and Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) are already in the cast.  What am I to do?  Fine, I'm in. Please release it around the Fourth of July.  Doesn't Will Smith have it in his contract that he must release a movie on the Fourth of July?
  • From Harry Potter to Spiderman, Rhys Ifans is will play the new villain in the new Spiderman prequel.  No official confirmation on the character though many are guessing the Lizard.  Whatever happened to Venom? And how about a title?  Let's work on that.  I can't keep typing Spiderman prequel each time.
  • Another superhero franchise is also abuzz with casting rumors.  Christopher Nolan is re-teaming with Tom Hardy (Eames the Forger from Inception) on the next Batman.  No word whatsoever on what role he'll play but that hasn't stopped the Internet from its wild speculations.  It's fun, no?
  • After Brad Bird and Pete Docter, John Lasseter will now use Michael Giacchino (Oscar winner for Best Score for last year's Up) for Cars 2.  Giacchino and Newman are both becoming the go-to music directors for Pixar and I wholly approve.   Their soundtracks always fits so perfectly and are sublime.
  • As I had suspected, Warner's Brothers isn't completely abandoning the idea of 3D for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.  Never fear, it'll be waiting for you when the Blu-Ray discs come out.

Finally, I'm going to end this long post with the link of the day!!!  Zach G poses in his swimsuit for Vanity Fair.  Warning: You will collapse with laughter and oh yeah, these are not safe for small kids and pets.  You have been warned!

Whew, that was exhausting.  I might take tomorrow off.
